John Wheeler: Hype, Harmonics, and Hundescheiße


Best known since 2001 as the frontman and creator of Rockgrass cult band, Hayseed Dixie, our hero has been playing odd-ball music and talking incessantly about philosophy, politics, and religion since being born in the dirtiest trailer park on Dickerson Pike, Nashville, Tennessee on a rainy January morning in 1970.

If it is indeed true that “entertainment” comfortably affirms your own world view while “art” stubbornly challenges it, then John’s work is best consumed with whisk(e)y in your coffee and without water in your wine.  While most of his time during the past 20 years has been occupied sleeping it off, releasing 17 albums and playing 1,500+ live shows in 33 countries with Hayseed Dixie, trying with some limited success sein fieses deutsch zu verbessern, and much more successfully annoying the ever-loving Perkele out his wife and daughters, he has also made several assorted solo recordings as well as producing the occasional album for other artists.

He’s a Champagne Socialiser and a Prosecco Socialist.  He’s a surly trailer trash elitist and an educated redneck. Conservatively Liberal, he’s either a righteous dude or a vile virtue-signaller, depending almost entirely upon your own attitudes.
